Hurricane Helene & Milton Disaster Relief November 9-10
Dear Pastors, Administrators, Parish Life Directors, Business Managers, and Religious Education Directors,
In these recent weeks, our brothers and sisters in the Carolinas and southern states along the East Coast have been devastated by the destructive forces of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Lives have been tragically lost, homes have been reduced to rubble, and entire communities are struggling to find hope in the midst of this profound hardship. Early reports indicate that over 200,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, countless families have been displaced, and essential services have been disrupted. As always, in moments like these, our faith calls us to act with love and compassion, reaching out to those most in need.
In response to this disaster, Bishop Michael Martin from the Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina, has personally reached out, asking for prayers, support, and donations from all corners of our Catholic family. In solidarity with those who are suffering, Archbishop Jose Gomez has urged us to prayerfully consider conducting a special collection for the victims and those affected by these hurricanes. This collection is an invitation to respond to Christ’s call to love and serve the least of our brothers and sisters.
The special collection can be held during the weekend of November 9-10, 2024. Your generosity, whether large or small, can make a meaningful difference to those rebuilding their lives.
Donations should be made payable to The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, with "Hurricane Disaster" written in the memo line. You can mail contributions to: The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, 3424 Wilshire Blvd, 3rd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90010.
For those who wish to contribute online, please visithttps://missionsla.org/product/donate and specify "Hurricane Disaster" in the memo box. Also included is a QR code to share in your parish bulletin for ease of access to the online donation link. Please feel free to use it to encourage your parishioners to contribute.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact The Pontifical Mission Societies of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles at (213) 637-7223 or via email at [email protected].
In this time of great need, let us come together as a community of faith, offering our prayers and support. May God bless you for your compassion and generosity, and may His grace bring comfort to all those affected by these tragedies.
Thank you for your prayers and your charitable support.
Rev. Jim Anguiano Monsignor Terrance L. Fleming, S.T.D.
