Security alert for parishes

Announcement at the Beginning of Masses, June 25-25, 2022

 

As you know, on Friday the Supreme Court issued a decision in the Dobbs case that overturned Roe v. Wade and permits significant restrictions on abortions.

 

It is possible that in the coming weeks we will have people who disagree with this decision protesting at our parish.  If that is the case, please respond with love and respect.  As long as protesters remain on public sidewalks they have a right to be there and to express their opinion.  If protestors come onto our property or disrupt our services, we will call on the assistance of local law enforcement.  If that comes to pass, please do not engage with the protesters, but rather simply pray for them.  We are mindful of the safety of everyone in our community and always want to respond in a truly Christ-like way.  Thank you.  

 

 

Notes for the Priest Presiding

 

If protesters do anything inside the church to disrupt our prayer, please pause the Mass, ask all in the assembly to be seated, and read the legal notice informing the demonstrators that their actions are a violation of the law.  Ask them politely to leave.  If they do, thank them for doing so and wish them God’s blessings.

 

If the protesters do not leave, the hospitality ministers have been instructed to call our local Sheriff.  While waiting for the help of law enforcement, you could choose to continue the Mass if the disruption is minor in nature (e.g., just a sign or two but not any noise).  If the disruption is more significant, however, I suggest you invite the members of the assembly to join you in praying the rosary.  That would keep the assembly focused on prayer.

Como saben, el viernes la Corte Suprema emitió una decisión en el caso Dobbs que revocó Roe versus Wade y permite restricciones significativas a los abortos.

 

Es posible que en las próximas semanas tengamos personas que no estén de acuerdo con esta decisión protestando en nuestra parroquia.  Si ese es el caso, por favor responda con amor y respeto.  Mientras los manifestantes permanezcan en las aceras públicas, tienen derecho a estar allí y expresar su opinión.  Si los manifestantes entran en nuestra propiedad o interrumpen nuestros servicios, pediremos la ayuda de la policía local.  Si eso llega a suceder, por favor no se involucre con los manifestantes, sino que simplemente ore por ellos.  Somos conscientes de la seguridad de todos en nuestra comunidad y siempre queremos responder de una manera verdaderamente cristiana.  Gracias.  

 

Notas para el sacerdote que preside

 

Si los manifestantes hacen algo dentro de la iglesia para interrumpir nuestra oración, por favor detengan la Misa, pidan a todos en la asamblea que se sienten y lean el aviso legal que informa a los manifestantes que sus acciones son una violación de la ley.  Pídales cortésmente que se vayan.  Si lo hacen, agradézcales por hacerlo y deséele las bendiciones de Dios.

 

Si los manifestantes no se van, los ministros de hospitalidad han recibido instrucciones de llamar a nuestro sheriff local.  Mientras espera la ayuda de la policía, puede optar por continuar la Misa si la interrupción es de naturaleza menor (por ejemplo, solo una señal o dos, pero no cualquier ruido).  Sin embargo, si la interrupción es más significativa, le sugiero que invite a los miembros de la asamblea a unirse a ustedes para rezar el rosario.  Eso mantendría a la asamblea enfocada en la oración.
