Our Lady of Charity St. Vincent de Paul in Lancaster, CA
Conference Mission Statement
Our mission is to bear witness to Christ and to His Church by showing that the faith of Christians inspires them to work for the good of their fellow human beings; to bring together men and women of good will and to assist them, by mutual example and true friendship, to draw nearer to their Divine Model, Jesus Christ, by fulfilling His commandment—namely the love of God in their fellow man by establishing a personal contact between its members and those who are suffering, and to bring to the suffering the most efficacious aid possible.

Prayer for the Canonization of
Blessed Frederic Ozanam
God, our Father, you alone have the power to bestow those precious gifts of yours which we rightly call miracles. If it be your will, be pleased to grant such a gift on all those suffering from Covid-19. We humbly ask that you grant this favor so that Blessed Frederic Ozanam may be canonized by our Holy Mother the Church. we make this prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son.
Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Charity “Dear Mother Mary, Our Lady of Charity, I come before you, with faith and devotion.
Pray for me that I may grow deeply in my spiritual journey. Give me the wisdom to discern with clear understanding the holy path to my walk of faith. Guide me to help the poor with love and compassion.
Dear God, bless me with your bountiful grace that I may serve You with humility and joy. This I ask, through our Lady’s intercession in Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Message from our President
Hello Vincentians,
February has come and gone in a flash! We have had a little bit of a break from our extra activities but things will pick up in March. We have a new volunteer, Tom, who has been a welcomed addition to our kitchen and pantry staff. He shows up early and stays until all of the friends in need are fed and helps with the cleanup. Thank you, Tom.
Our Annual Meeting at the Skirball Center isMarch 2nd, we have 5 or 6 people attending. We will share the photos from the meeting in the next newsletter, it is a beautiful Mass service and lunch.
Ash Wednesday isMarch 5th, the beginning of Lent.
We will be preparing for the Easter Food Basket Giveaway this month. So far, the deliveries far exceed the pickups. We will need 6 sets of 2 drivers to deliver to our seniors.
St. Patrick’s Day isMarch 17th, we plan to have lunch at Bravery Brewery to give us a time to kickback and relax. Please let Candace or me know if you plan to attend so we can reserve enough tables.
Thanks to all of the wonderful staff at our Lady of Charity Conference. So much gets accomplished and I truly appreciate all that you do.
God Bless, Paul
The Didache
The Lord's Teaching Through the Twelve Apostles to the Nations.
. Chapter 9.The Eucharist. Now concerning the Eucharist, give thanks this way. First, concerning the cup:
We thank thee, our Father, for the holy vine of David Thy servant, which You madest known to us through Jesus Thy Servant; to Thee be the glory for ever..
And concerning the broken bread: We thank Thee, our Father, for the life and knowledge which You madest known to us through Jesus Thy Servant; to Thee be the glory for ever. Even as this broken bread was scattered over the hills, and was gathered together and became one, so let Thy Church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into Thy kingdom; for Thine is the glory and the power through Jesus Christ for ever.
But let no one eat or drink of your Eucharist, unless they have been baptized into the name of the Lord; for concerning this also the Lord has said, "Give not that which is holy to the dogs."
A Prayer from Deacon Paul Schwerdt
I am writing a few days before the beginning of Lent, the liturgical season when the Church calls us to “repent and believe in the gospel,” and to remind us of our mortality: “remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.”
To think about one’s death must be a morbid (pun intended) concept to non-Christians. Death to them means the end is near. To a Christian, death is a passageway to the life we were created for. But we don’t automatically pass through. It takes work. Our Catholic faith gives us the tools to get to heaven. Jesus Himself tells us, “Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt.5:48). Good people don’t get to heaven. Only saints get into heaven. Sainthoodisachievable.
In the season of Lent, God more closely pilots the ship of our lives, controlling the rudder, keeping the shop properly pointed to the destination. When we are properly pointed we are free to live our life to the fullest, to make the biggest difference we can to leave the world a better place than when we entered it. And, in the process, we become saints.
I’d like to close with three quotes from the author Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain. He claimed to be an atheist or agnostic, but I like to think that the possibility of an after-life bothered his conscience.
1. If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.
2. Give every day the chance to become the most beautiful of your life.
3. The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.
May you all have a blessed and fruitful Lent!
