Dear Pastors, Administrators, Parish Life Directors, ADLA Parish Business Managers:
RE: Maui, Hawaii Wildfires
As the death toll from the devastating wildfires on the island of Maui, Hawaii continues to climb, officials have confirmed that
this to be the deadliest disaster in the state’s history. We are reaching out to our Archdiocesan parishes and communities to join
together to offer prayer and financial support for all whose lives are being touched by this devastation.
In a telegram addressed to the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Pope Francis expressed his deep sadness at “the loss of life
and the destruction caused by the wildfires” in Hawaii and assured those affected by the fires of his prayers.
In solidarity with our suffering sisters and brothers, Archbishop Gomez has asked all parishes to consider conducting a non-
mandatory special collection during the weekends of August 19-20 and August 26-27, 2023.
All checks should be made payable to THE SOCIETY FOR THE PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH-memo: MAUI WILDFIRES. Donations
may be mailed to SOCIETY FOR THE PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH, 3424 Wilshire Boulevard-3rd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90010.

disaster.

RE: Incendios forestales en Maui, Hawaii
A medida que el número de muertos por los devastadores incendios forestales en la isla de Maui, Hawaii sigue aumentando,
las autoridades han confirmado que este es el desastre más mortífero en la historia del estado. Hacemos un llamamiento a
nuestras parroquias y comunidades arquidiocesanas para que se unan en la oración y ofrezcan ayuda económica a todas las
personas afectadas por esta devastación.
En un telegrama dirigido al Nuncio Apostólico en los Estados Unidos, el Papa Francisco expresó su profunda tristeza por "la
pérdida de vidas y la destrucción causada por los incendios forestales" en Hawaii y aseguró a los afectados por los incendios
de sus oraciones.
En solidaridad con nuestros hermanos y hermanas que sufren, el Arzobispo Gomez ha pedido a todas las parroquias que
consideren realizar una colecta especial no obligatoria durante los fines de semana del 19 y 20 de agosto y del 26 y 27 de
agosto de 2023.
