In our ongoing mission to support struggling parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, we often seek inspiration from the lives of saints. Today, on her feast day, let's reflect on the profound legacy of St. Margaret of Cortona, whose journey of conversion and dedication to helping the marginalized exemplifies our mission at Together in Mission.
FROM TRAGEDY TO TRIUMPH
St. Margaret of Cortona's life unfolded in the 13th century, marked by personal challenges and a radical conversion. Following the loss of her partner and her father's rejection for having a child out of wedlock, Margaret turned to her faith, embracing a life devoted to service and compassion. Following the Franciscan way, she dedicated herself to serving the impoverished and sick, particularly other single mothers, and founded a hospital in Cortona, Italy. She even instituted her order of Third Order Franciscan sisters, who became the nurses for her hospital.
St. Margaret of Cortona inspired a community of giving — her son, the sisters in her order, and many others echoed her legacy through service and love.
